Case of the Day: United States v. Airman First Class Simmons, 2016 CCA LEXIS 393 (U.S. Air Force Crim. App. Ct. July 7, 2016)

Summary:

Defendant airman, stationed in Okinawa, Japan, had sexual intercourse with a 14-year-old and provided alcohol--for which he was sentenced to dishonorable discharge, confinement for 30 months, and reduction in rank. Defendant appealed, and the appellate military affirmed the trial court's sentence.

Takeaway:

It is useful to remind ourselves another important way in which the U.S. judiciary interacts with Asia: through military tribunals in the bases located in Asia.
